A feminist group on the campus of the University of Mary Washington is accusing the school of failing to act on sexual and violent cyberthreats against its members.

The complaint was filed by Feminist United. The group says the state university failed to protect the women from "a sexually hostile school environment." Hundreds of profane messages were included in the complaint.

The complaint was made to the U.S. Education Department, which investigates the handling of sexual assaults and harassment at universities.

In a statement, Mary Washington denied the allegations.

Feminists United were working on the complaint before the April 17 slaying of board member Grace Rebecca Mann. Her roommate has been charged in the killing. Police have not released a motive.
