Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer has been shot and wounded in west Philadelphia and that a suspect also has been injured.

Officer Daniel Kostick, an 8-year department veteran, suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The suspect also is being treated at another hospital. The extent of his wounds was not immediately known.

Police say the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross says Kostick, who is bicycle officer, is "OK. ... He's in good spirits."

A handgun has been recovered.
