Police have identified the Suffolk County police officer who was shot and wounded while on duty on Long Island.

A police spokeswoman says Officer Mark Collins was shot just before midnight Wednesday on Mercer Court near Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station.

He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. The spokeswoman did not have his condition. But WPIX-TV says the 12-year veteran suffered non-life threatening injuries to the neck and hip.

Details of the shooting were not immediately available.

A search for a suspect continued.
