MAYPORT NAVAL STATION, Fla. – U.S. Navy prosecutors are scheduled to present evidence against 12 male sailors accused of illegally making videos of female officers aboard a nuclear submarine that was among the first to allow American women to serve alongside men.
The hearing Thursday at Mayport Naval Station near Jacksonville is the first in the case against sailors accused of videotaping female officers in the dressing area of the USS Wyoming.
Naval authorities say the recordings were also shared among the male sailors.
The head of the Navy's submarine force, Vice Adm. Michael Connor, has said there have been a few incidents since the integration of women into many roles.
Still, Connor says overall it has been a success: More than 100 women are currently in the submarine program.
