A trial is set to begin for three corrections officers charged with seriously injuring an inmate during a beating at Attica state prison in 2011.

Keith Swack, Sean Warner and Matthew Rademacher are charged with gang assault and tampering with physical evidence. They're accused of beating then-29-year-old George Williams so severely that he suffered broken bones in both legs and his face. Williams was serving time for stealing jewelry from two Manhattan stores in 2008 and 2009.

Authorities say the three guards beat Williams in August 2011 at the maximum-security prison in Wyoming County. The charges came after a four-month investigation by the Department of Corrections, state police and the Inspector General's Office.

Jury selection in the trial is scheduled to start Monday morning in Warsaw, the county seat located 10 miles from Attica.
