Federal prosecutors say a cargo ship picking up seafood to take back to Asia has been detained in an Alaska harbor amid an environmental crimes investigation.

The Alaska Dispatch News (http://is.gd/9rsTHR ) reports that the Coast Guard conducted an inspection of the 600-foot Lindavia when it stopped in Dutch Harbor.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Feldis said Wednesday that the Coast Guard found deficiencies and other issues requiring further investigation. He said he could not provide further details as the investigation continues.

It's not clear how long the vessel and the crew will be held in the harbor. Feldis says sometimes operators negotiate agreements for release by the Coast Guard.

Feldis says a German company operated the vessel, which was registered in Liberia.
