WASHINGTON – Gov. Chris Christie is distancing himself from New Jersey's economic troubles as he weighs a presidential bid.
Christie delivered the keynote speech Thursday evening at the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce's 78th annual Congressional Dinner.
The dinner caps the annual "Walk to Washington" event that has brought hundreds of the state's legislators, business owners and lobbyists to the nation's capital.
Christie told those gathered in the grand auditorium of Washington's Marriott Wardman Park Hotel that New Jersey's residents and businesses are still far too burdened by high taxes.
He blamed the state's Democratic legislature, saying his economic plans had never been implemented.
He said he'd fight any efforts to raise taxes this year when he delivers his annual budget address next week.
