A judge has set a May trial date for a former Ohio sheriff's deputy accused of fatally shooting an ex-colleague more than three decades ago.

Mitchell Ruble pleaded not guilty last year to an aggravated murder charge in the February 1981 shotgun slaying of Deputy Lt. Ray "Joe" Clark. Authorities say Ruble killed Clark after Clark fired him for inappropriate conduct.

Authorities say that while serving a search warrant, law enforcement discovered Ruble had a modified AR-15 rifle, hand grenades and other explosives.

The 64-year-old Ruble pleaded not guilty earlier this month to charges of unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance, illegal manufacture or processing of explosives and attempted illegal manufacture or processing of explosives.

Washington County Judge Randall Burnworth scheduled Ruble's trial for May 11.
