A northern California high school where sex ed was taught by members of Planned Parenthood apparently had at least two instructors with interesting sidelines.

Parents of children who attend Acalanes Union High School in Lafayette, Calif., along with local area groups, had been demanding for months the district tell them exactly who was teaching the sex education program.

Some of the answers they received did not make them happy. At least two of the instructors had questionable day jobs, with one conducting sex toy workshops at a local porn shop. Another, who dubbed herself a “pleasure activist,” had attended pornography conferences with other Planned Parenthood employees.

“These are two representatives (who) happen to have a truly questionable background,” Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute, which made the initial inquiry with concerned parents, told FoxNews.com. “There has been outcry from the parents. This school district doesn’t seem to get it when it comes to the proper protection for the students.”

Controversy surrounding the sex education course at Acalanes Union surfaced in December when PJI and parents launched a petition in which they demanded that AHS develop and implement its own curriculum as well as a sex ed "preview" course offered to parents by the same person who teaches the kids. The aim was to give parents the full knowledge necessary to make an informed decision regarding their child's participation.

As a result, they discovered exactly who was teaching their kids.

One instructor leads a “pleasure workshop”—in which the use of sex toys are demonstrated at a store called Good Vibrations in nearby Berkeley. It was not immediately clear if the instructor told students of the store’s offerings.

They also discovered that a second instructor at Acalanes High School who was an education manager for Planned Parenthood Northern California, had boasted that she was a “pleasure activist” online and also commented on her twitter feed that she attended the CatalystCon pornography conference. The conference attracts members of the porn industry and has workshops and panels that discusses topics like using explicit instructional media for sex ed, the history of sex toys and how to effectively share your sex life on the stage and on the page.

She has since taken down her twitter page which allegedly contained scores of other tweets that contained vulgar language.

Officials for the Acalanes Union High School District did not immediately respond to requests for comment but have released statements regarding Planned Parenthood handling sex ed instruction.

“Some schools in the District have utilized Planned Parenthood educators for well over ten years,” reads the statement. “The regular classroom teacher participates in the lessons and assists in the discussion facilitation.

"The instruction is age-appropriate using objective and medically accurate information. The value of abstinence is emphasized as it is identified as the only certain way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection. We believe the instruction builds student skills for making and implementing responsible decisions about sexuality…Parents are given prior notification of the presentation, the topics to be covered, and informed that a Planned Parenthood educator will be presenting to the students. Parents are able to opt their students out from the instruction.”

Dacus said that the two instructors will no longer teach there but did not say who would replace them.

"They announced that they would not be continuing, but they haven’t said who would be teaching the students in the future,” he said. “This school has continually displayed a lack of accountability.

“The two other schools in the district have chosen not to use Planned Parenthood and they are not having any problems.”
