WINTHROP, Maine – Two volunteers for an organization that delivers hot meals to elderly residents are being credited with saving a 99-year-old Maine man's life.
Nelson and Sherry Lavigne, volunteers for Winthrop Hot Meal Kitchen, said they were making a delivery around 5 p.m. Wednesday when they found Gordon Alcott down on his back porch, bleeding from the head.
Nelson Lavigne tells the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1uBNkSJ ) he helped Alcott stand, while Sherry Lavigne called police.
Winthrop Police Chief Joe Young says Alcott told them he had been outside for three hours. Temperatures were in the 20s that evening.
Alcott was taken to a hospital and was back home by Thursday.
Officials say Alcott may have frozen to death had he not been found.
