SCRANTON, Pa. – A Pennsylvania state trooper wounded in an ambush at a rural police barracks has been released from a hospital after almost a month of treatment.
The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that Trooper Alex Douglass left Geisinger Community Medical Center with a police escort on Thursday.
Geisinger spokeswoman Wendy Wilson told the newspaper that "all of our nurses were crying watching him leave." She said he had many visitors and was in good spirits during his stay.
Douglass was wounded in the Sept. 12 ambush outside the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County that killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson.
Thirty-one-year-old suspect Eric Frein has eluded police despite an intense manhunt.
Douglass is now being treated at a facility owned by Allied Services, which runs rehab centers in the Scranton area.
