The Air Force Academy's inspector general has given the athletic department a passing grade and says he found no problems warranting a criminal investigation.

Academy officials announced the results Tuesday. They declined to release the report.

The announcement came amid renewed concerns about previous allegations of sexual assaults, some centering on athletes. A spokesman says the review included athletic department sexual assault prevention programs but he declined to discuss the findings.

School officials say the review was unrelated to the sexual assault concerns and was in response to an Air Force-wide mandate for inspections of smaller units.

The inspector general gave the athletic department an "effective" rating, meaning it is performing its mission.

The effective grade is the middle of a five-step scale ranging from "ineffective" to "outstanding."
