A North Carolina man has been arrested and accused of stealing golf balls from a South Carolina course.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported York County sheriff's deputies followed tire tracks to arrest a man who said he was collecting golf balls to sell.

A sheriff's report says deputies were called to the Carolina Crossing golf course late last week to investigate a report of a suspicious man. A deputy followed moped tracks and found a man behind some trees.

The deputy said 46-year-old David Clinton Burris of Gastonia, North Carolina, was carrying a duffel bag and said he was looking for golf balls.

Burris has been charged with trespassing and possession of marijuana. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
