Child protection officials say a transgender Connecticut girl who was moved from a women's prison to a psychiatric center for children has now been relocated to a center for delinquent boys after an assault.

Officials said there is no "suitable place" in the juvenile psychiatric center and placed her in the Juvenile Training School in Middletown, Connecticut's only secure facility for delinquent boys. She is in a single room separated from the boys.

The Department of Children and Families said Sunday that the girl assaulted another youth and a staffer and destroyed property the previous night.

The girl had been detained in the prison without criminal charges and was moved last month to the psychiatric center.

Her lawyer criticized the agency for issuing a news release rather than notifying him.
