Loud music players beware: code enforcement inspectors are coming after you with a new tool.

After repeated complaints about excessively loud music at bars in downtown Melbourne, code enforcers will start randomly measuring decibel levels on weekends.

Cocoa Beach concert promoter Robert Deuterman worries the crackdown will deter bands and hurt businesses that took years to build.

Florida Today reports the city has not issued any downtown-noise code violations this year and city officials say they will first give warnings.

The ordinance says music cannot exceed 55 decibels after 10 p.m. at neighboring condos. Mainstreet Pub operational manager Kevin Carlin uses a decibel-meter app on his phone.  He says it's almost impossible for an outdoor business to work at 55 decibels.
