A 45-year-old Detroit woman has been burned severely over at least half her body after gasoline was poured on her and set afire during an argument with a boyfriend.

Detroit Fire Arson Chief Charles Simms tells the Detroit Free Press the woman was in critical condition Friday with second- and third-degree burns to her torso, arms, neck and face.

Simms tells The Detroit News that the woman is on a ventilator.

Her 59-year-old boyfriend was arrested after the 2 a.m. assault in an apartment on Detroit's east side. Authorities were expected to seek charges Friday.

Simms said the woman left the argument, was followed and was set on fire when she went into another apartment.
