Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Thursday that conditions have improved in the Mexican prison where he is being held on gun charges, and he is hopeful he will be released.

Tahmooressi has been held in a Mexican jail since March 31 after accidentally making a wrong turn into Mexico with three guns in his vehicle.

Tahmooressi has said he was beaten and chained to a bed by Mexican guards in jail, but told Van Susteren that since then, conditions in the prison have significantly improved.

“The guards are friendly and I have everything I need and I’m taken care of pretty well,” he said on “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

Tahmooressi said he is “very lonely,” but is keeping busy by exercising, reading and praying. He also said he gets to make phone calls in the morning and evening.

Tahmooressi added he is very hopeful he will be released because he is innocent and has a good lawyer. He also said he believes the Mexican people believe he is innocent.

“I think (the Mexican people) see that this was a mistake and that I was at the hands of some bad military officials,” he said.
