TRENTON, N.J. – Gov. Chris Christie's former political strategist says he told the governor that he knew about a plan to realign traffic near the George Washington Bridge the day before Christie told reporters that no one close to him had prior knowledge.
Bill Stepien's lawyer, Kevin Marino, is demanding a correction to a report commissioned by Christie that concludes that Stepien lied to the governor by saying he didn't know about the idea in advance.
Stepien says he told Christie in a mid-December conversation that he was told that the lane alignment was for a traffic study.
It's now widely believed the lanes were closed to retaliate against a local mayor.
Randy Mastro, the lawyer who wrote the report, says there is no basis for a correction.
