PUEBLO, Colo. – A man who pleaded guilty to killing a southern Colorado couple and their daughter in November will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty under a deal with prosecutors.
Harry Mapps pleaded guilty Thursday to killing Reginald and Kim Tuttle and their daughter Dawn Roderick and setting their house in Rye on fire in November. The 60-year-old lived in the family's basement and was about to be fired from the Tuttles' trucking business.
Mapps immediately was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.
District Attorney Jeff Chostner says Mapps' age and poor health factored into his decision not to pursue the death penalty. He also says relatives of the victims opposed the death penalty, though some more strongly than others.
Mapps was arrested in December in Roland, Oklahoma.
