The heartbreak mounted for the family of a murdered barber when the dead man’s 4-year-old son was struck by a van and killed returning from the funeral in a Philadelphia suburb.

Police said the boy, Karder Brown, jumped out of a parked gold Dodge Charger in Chester, Pa., when he was hit Saturday at 5 p.m. He was running toward his mom just as a van was driving down the street, MyFoxPhilly reported.

He was rushed to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"I was coming down the street when he got hit. I saw him on the ground and I was holding him and telling him to hold on, but I think he was already dead," Denise Brown, Karder’s great aunt, told the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia.

The 42-year-old driver of the van, registered to a South Jersey business, stopped and was questioned by police.  Authorities said it appeared to be a tragic accident and no charges were expected to be filed.

The boy and his family were returning from his father Derrick Brown’s funeral.

Brown, 38, owned a barbershop in Chester and was murdered April 5. Chester police say he was an innocent bystander who was hit by bullets intended for a 16-year-old pedestrian.
