Closing arguments in trial of former Al Qaeda spokesman

NEW YORK – A defense lawyer for Usama bin Laden's son-in-law says there's a lack of evidence to convict his client of conspiring to kill Americans after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Attorney Stanley Cohen belittled the government's interpretation of evidence against his client Sulaiman Abu Ghaith in a closing argument Monday. He said prosecutors tried to anger jurors to seek retaliation by showing them video of the burning World Trade Center towers.
His presentation came after a prosecutor insisted there was an abundance of evidence to convict the one-time al-Qaida spokesman of terrorism charges. Abu Ghaith is the highest-ranking Al Qaeda figure to face trial on U.S. soil since Sept. 11.
If convicted, he could face life in prison. Abu Ghaith was brought to New York last year after his capture in Turkey.
