SPRING, Texas – A grand jury will have to determine whether a suburban Houston man knew he was shooting his teenage daughter's guest — or thought he was shooting an intruder.
The dead 17-year-old boy's family identified him as Johran McCormick of Spring. Zakia McCormick tells KHOU-TV of Houston she knows she won't have her son back, but she'd like at least an apology. In her words, "He didn't deserve to die like that."
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Mark Herman says the 55-year-old homeowner heard noises coming from his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom, investigated, found the boy with his daughter and shot him in the ensuing altercation.
Investigators said the girl initially denied knowing the boy, but sheriff's Sgt. Ben Beall says she apparently knew the boy.
