MINNEAPOLIS – A Minnesota man who spent nine months in prison in the United Arab Emirates for posting a satirical video online says he felt fear at times and was kept in filthy conditions.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press on Friday, Shezanne Cassim shared some details about his ordeal for the first time.
He talked about his police interrogation, the dirty Dubai jail where he stayed, and his fright when he was transferred to a maximum-security prison and realized the gravity of his situation.
Cassim was accused of violating the country's cybercrimes law. He says he did nothing wrong by posting his video online.
Cassim also says it's great to be home. He says he may write a book or find ways to help improve the UAE's justice system.
