A single-seat Navy F-18 jet has crashed off the coast of Virginia Beach, a U.S. Navy official confirmed to Fox News.

Spokesman Petty Officer David Weydert said the pilot was rescued by a fishing vessel in the area, WAVY reports.

The pilot ejected from the jet and was recovered by a Navy helicopter. A Navy spokesman told the Associated Press that the pilot is conscious, but he gave no other details immediately about the crash or the pilot's health.

The crash comes one week after a Navy MH-53E “Sea Dragon” helicopter crashed off the coast of Virginia Beach. Two sailors died as a result of that accident.
