NEW YORK – A New York judge says statements Osama bin Laden's son-in-law made to U.S. authorities when he was brought to the United States can be used against him at a terrorism trial.
Judge Lewis Kaplan also declined Tuesday to toss out conspiracy charges that were brought against Sulaiman Abu Ghaith (SOO'-lay-mahn AH'-boo GAYTH).
Kaplan issued his ruling after conducting a lengthy hearing to decide issues raised by lawyers for the former bin Laden spokesman.
The lawyers had challenged statements their client made during a 14-hour flight to the U.S. earlier this year.
Abu Ghaith has pleaded not guilty to charges he conspired to kill Americans in his role as al-Qaida's spokesman after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
