Two Memphis police officers were shot Tuesday in a standoff with a man wanted for attempted murder who later apparently killed himself, according to a report on MyFoxMemphis.com.
Police found the body of Aaron Dumas in his home about six hours after a standoff began with police.
The incident began around 1:21 p.m. CT, when police officers attempted to serve a warrant on Dumas, who’s wanted for two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with an Oct. 7 shooting, Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong told local media outlets.
Authorities came under gunfire after entering Dumas’ South Memphis residence. Police officer Timothy Jackson, 26, was shot in the leg and sent to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, Armstrong said.
Nearly three hours later, a second officer, Paul Hutchinson, was also shot in the leg by gunfire from within the house, The Commercial Appeal reported. His condition was listed as non-critical, Armstrong said.
A small fire was set inside the house. A source told MyFoxMemphis.com that police believe Dumas shot himself before setting the house ablaze.
Jackson has served five years on the Memphis police force, while Hutchinson is a 15-year veteran, authorities said.
