The New York Public Library is celebrating children's literature with a list of 100 great kids' books from the last 100 years.

The list released Monday includes picture books as well as novels for older readers like "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Authors Judy Blume and Eric Carle joined librarians for a panel discussion.

Blume's "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" is on the list. She said when she was in the fourth grade, she always had stories in her head. But she never told anybody because she thought they would think she was "weird."

Carle made the list with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." He said the caterpillar started out as Willie the Worm but his editor "didn't like the worm so much."
