A 2-year-old central Florida boy is in critical condition after a lawn mower ran over his leg.

The boy’s mother, Maria Isabel Huerto Bello, 23, was mowing her yard in Lake Placid, Fla., and the boy, Anthony, was riding his bike, officials said. She put the lawn mower in reverse, and struck the boy.

“Right now, all the evidence points that this was an accident,” Nell Hays, the public information officer told FoxNews.com. The child remains in critical condition following surgery at Tampa General Hospital on Wednesday.

There have been at least two other lawn mower accidents involving children in Florida this year. Toddler April Nugent lost both legs below the knees when her father ran over her legs in April.

In July, a 4-year-old from Hardee County lost part of her right foot when her father backed over her with a riding lawn mower.

No further details about the latest case were immediately available.
