A standoff between San Antonio police officers and a man who shot another officer in the head ended peacefully Monday when the man surrendered to police.

The standoff ended at approximately 5 p.m. local time. A SWAT team had surrounded the Super 8 Motel in downtown San Antonio, where the alleged gunman had barricaded himself inside one of the rooms.

The wounded officer, an eight-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department, was shot shortly before 8 a.m. local time Monday when he responded to a domestic disturbance call at the motel. When he and his colleagues arrived, the suspect shot through the door of one of the rooms.

Guests were evacuated from the motel, and police blocked off streets in the area, including a section of Interstate 35.

The wounded officer was taken to a local hospital, is in stable condition, and is expected to survive, Fox affiliate KABB reported.
