OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma prosecutor overseeing the case against three teenagers charged with fatally shooting a 22-year-old Australian baseball player says the evidence doesn't suggest he was targeted based on his race or nationality.
District Attorney Jason Hicks said in a statement Friday that although social media posts allegedly made by the teenagers charged in the death of Christopher Lane are racial in nature, "the evidence is insufficient to establish that race was the primary motive" in his slaying.
Hicks charged 15-year-old James Edwards Jr. and 16-year-old Chancey Luna with first-degree murder. Seventeen-year-old Michael Jones has been charged with using a vehicle in discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact.
Hicks also released a 911 call in which the caller reported that kids outside a home threatening to kill someone.
