Alabama boy tried as adult for allegedly hanging half-sister

Prosecutors in northwest Alabama say the 15-year-old boy accused of hanging his 9-year-old half-sister will be tried as an adult.

St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor told AL.com that his request to have the Ragland teen tried as an adult was granted Wednesday.

The boy is accused in the May 2012 death of Katelynn Arnold. Authorities have said the teen called the girl over to a tree while she was riding her bike and the girl's foster mother later found her hanging from a rope.

The two were in the care of their aunt and uncle at the time and the case has been sent to a grand jury.
