A pregnant woman sitting on a New York City park bench was struck and killed by a falling tree in what witnesses are describing as a freak accident.
“I heard a loud crash and a boom,” Same Kim, a witness, told Fox 5 News. “When we got there we saw a young Asian girl lying face down and there was blood coming out of her head.
The accident happened at Kissena Park in Flushing, Queens, on Sunday.
Emergency responders identified the woman as Yingyi Li, 30, who died at New York Hospital Queens. A source told the New York Post that Li was five months pregnant.
New York City park advocates say this is the 12th incident involving a fallen tree branch or limb in the last few weeks, with the most recent being the only death, Fox 5 News reports.
