COLUMBUS, Ohio – The prosecutor in Ohio's most populous county isn't limiting his review of capital punishment to the case of a man set for execution next month.
Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County Prosecutor Tim McGinty will look at each of the three other inmates from the county scheduled to die this year and next.
McGinty, who promised to reduce the number of capital indictments when running for election last year, also will look at the county's other 18 death row inmates as they receive execution dates.
McGinty has taken the rare step of asking the Ohio Parole Board to spare condemned killer Billy Slagle, set to die Aug. 7 for fatally stabbing a neighbor in a burglary.
The prosecutor, whose jurisdiction includes Cleveland, wants pursuing capital punishment to be the exception, not the rule.
