CLEVELAND – Investigators say they are checking new evidence to determine if there were additional victims of a Cleveland man charged with kidnapping three women and raping them during a decade of home imprisonment.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine told The Associated Press on Friday that the new evidence was sent to the state crime laboratory. He declined to specify the nature or source of the material but said processing additional evidence is normal in an investigation.
The county prosecutor directing a grand jury investigation says "there is nothing further to report" on the inquiry.
Fifty-two-year-old Ariel Castro has pleaded not guilty to 329 counts, including more than 100 counts each of kidnapping and rape.
Those charges came from an indictment covering August 2002, when the first victim disappeared, to February 2007.
