Princeton University in New Jersey was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was made to "multiple unspecified campus buildings," the school said in a statement.

Students and faculty were told to go home and not to return to campus for any reason until further updates.

The university says state, federal and local law enforcement agencies are investigating.

Dan Day, a school spokesman, says employees were told to leave the central New Jersey campus just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. An hour later, cars were streaming out of campus lots. At least one gate to the university was shut.

No classes are in session, though some summer programs are.

The university told employees that most would not be expected to return to work Tuesday.
