A postcard that a soldier wrote in World War II has finally been received by his family in Indiana.

The Peru Tribune reports Private Joseph E. Brough wrote the postcard before his airplane went down in the Pacific Ocean in 1944.

John Schlatter says he bought the postcard last year on eBay. Schlatter says his hobby is buying World War II postcards and returning them to the families of the soldiers who wrote them.

He says finding Brough's family was difficult. Schlatter says he's been trying for a year to find them, and finally wrote a letter to the editor of the Peru newspaper asking for help.

A high school classmate of Brough's son connected him with the family.

Brough's body was returned to Peru in 1950.
