Police say the body of a New Jersey woman was found at the base of some waterfalls in northeastern Pennsylvania and the death is suspicious.

Pennsylvania State Police say the body of 56-year-old Wayne, N.J., resident Gail Dews was recovered at the base of the gorge at Shohola Falls in Pike County on Monday morning. A police spokeswoman, Officer Connie Devens, says the death is being considered suspicious and police don't know how Dews died.

The Pocono Record reports Dews' husband had reported her missing and police had been searching for her as part of a daylong effort. Devens says family members are being interviewed as part of the investigation.

Authorities say recovering the body from the gorge was difficult because of shade, loose rocks, ice and moss.
