Police say a man walking his dog in the Bronx found the dismembered remains of a woman in plastic bags.

The discovery was made around 5 a.m. Tuesday in the Melrose neighborhood.

Police say that when the dog sniffed one of the bags, the man opened it. He thought there might be something of value inside.

That's when the gruesome discovery was made.

Police say there were four bags found in the area. One apparently held a leg and an arm. Another contained shoulders.

The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of the woman's death.

There was no identification found on the remains.
