A Texas middle school teacher has been suspended after allegedly lassoing a student during a history lesson on techniques used during cattle drives.

KHOU.com reports that a teacher at Schrade Middle School in Rowlett asked for student volunteers to help demonstrate lasso techniques and "tried to rope" a 13-year-old student.

"[The teacher] was visiting with the students, telling the students about how cowboys would corral maverick steers back into the herd," Garland Independent School District spokesman Chris Moore told the news station.

The student volunteer allegedly sustained bruises during the incident and police in Rowlett are considering possible criminal charges, according to KHOU.com.

The district tells the station the unidentified teacher feels badly and has agreed not to use the lasso in class again.
