A New Jersey man has been denied bail after a New York prosecutor said the defendant's plot to kidnap, rape and kill a woman was more than a fantasy.

Michael Vanhise (van-HY'-zee) was ordered detained during a bail hearing Monday.

Prosecutors allege he agreed to pay New York City Police Officer Gilberto Valle $5,000 to kidnap a woman who Vanhise could rape and kill. Vanhise was arrested last week.

Valle goes to trial this month in a kidnap conspiracy case. Authorities say it included plans to abduct, rape, murder and eat women. None were harmed.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry Pitman says Vanhise should be held without bail because he seems a danger to the community. A prosecutor says he told the FBI his plans were real.
