Jury rules LA school district must pay $6.9 million to molested boy as Miramonte lawsuits loom

LOS ANGELES – A jury has ruled that the Los Angeles Unified School District must pay $6.9 million to a boy molested by his elementary school teacher.

The award Tuesday is among the largest for a single victim in the history of the district, and comes as it seeks to settle sex abuse suits involving nearly 200 plaintiffs stemming from high-profile allegations against a teacher at Miramonte Elementary School.

The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/UPFrC5) reports the jury found the district liable for the 2008 molestation by teacher Forrest Stobbe at Queen Anne Elementary School.

Last year Stobbe pleaded no contest to lewd acts on a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.

Stobbe had a clean criminal record, but the jury ruled the district should have heeded complaints that preceded the molestation.
