A prank during a Black Friday shopping frenzy on Thanksgiving night caused a shooting scare at Town East Mall.
According to investigators, someone inside the Mesquite shopping center dropped a trash can from the upper level, creating a loud noise that scared shoppers and scattered the confused crowd.
Many thought they heard gunfire and several people called police to report a possible shooting.
It was not clear who pulled the garbage can stunt but one person was detained and handcuffed in the mall, though it was unclear if he was the prankster.
