Police chief, officer hurt in Iowa chase for bank robbery suspect

A mayor says the police chief of an Iowa town is injured after a high-speed chase with bank robbery suspects, who shot a state trooper and a state vehicle.

Sumner Mayor Gary Walke said Chief Dennis Cain was injured during the pursuit. Walke declined further comment, and the cause of Cain's injuries wasn't immediately clear. He says his prayers are with Cain and his family.

Two suspects robbed a bank in Maynard and fled in a car. A chase ensued, and they jumped out near Frederika. A spokesman says a trooper was shot in the upper right arm and is recovering and a Department of Transportation officer's vehicle was hit by gunfire.

Bright said law enforcement officials believe the suspects are hiding in a rock quarry, which they have surrounded.
