Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Saturday morning in Houston on a charge of resisting arrest.

Peterson was arrested around 2:30 a.m. and spent the night in jail before being released on $1,000 bond at 10:14 a.m., a Houston Police Department spokesman told NFL.com.

Team spokesman Bob Hagan said that the Vikings "are aware of the situation and are gathering more information."

No further details were available on the arrest. A Houston police spokesman didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Peterson, 27,  is from Palestine, Texas and is six months into rehabilitation for reconstructive surgery on his left knee after tearing both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments last Dec. 24.

He was drafted by the Vikings in 2007.
