Search and rescue teams are scouring 260 square miles of Arizona desert Tuesday for any sign of an experienced hiker who disappeared two days ago.
Kenny Clark, 56, was reported missing around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, after he failed to return home from a four- to five-hour hike in the Superstition Mountains about 40 miles east of Phoenix.
Clark, of Gilbert, Ariz., set out through the rugged terrain Sunday in blazing heat, authorities said. But Clark, who is described as having long blonde hair and weighing 200 pounds, has no known medical condition and is believed to have taken a water pack with him, Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV reported.
Clark's red vehicle was reportedly found near First Water Trailhead, but there was no trace of him.
A 60-crew team of search and rescuers from Maricopa and Pinal counties combed the rough terrain for Clark on Monday. The searches included the use of helicopters and K-9 units to track the man's scent.
"The major trails have been covered. We've gone up and down all the major trails in the area -- now we will spread out and go off the beaten path," Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Christopher Hegstrom told the station.
