A Louisiana businessman linked to a corruption probe of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is expected to plead guilty to conspiring to bribe a former city official.

Randy Smith is an attorney for the businessman, Frank Fradella. Smith says it's obvious who the official is, but he would not name the person.

The ex-official served as an "agent" of the city between 2002 to 2010 — years coinciding with Nagin's two terms in office. The official is identified as "Public Official A" in court documents.

Nagin has not been charged with wrongdoing. An attorney for the former mayor did not immediately respond to telephone calls seeking comment. U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said he couldn't comment.

Smith says Fradella is cooperating with federal authorities and will plead guilty Wednesday.
