Long Island student suspended for fictional video about bullying

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y.- A Long Island student was suspended by school officials after making a fictional video about the impact of bullying for a class project.

Jessica Barba, who attends Longwood High School in Middle Island, created the video featuring a 12-year-old girl named Hailey who kills herself after being bullied on Facebook and at school, reported.

She posted it on YouTube on May 15 and included captions stating it was a work of fiction.

But at least one parent complained to police and she was suspended two days later.

Supporters made T-shirts calling for her suspension to be lifted and claiming she was now being bullied by the school.

School officials declined to comment, saying on that the video created a "disruption."

Jessica's father Michael Barba said, "All I would expect out of this is an A and for her to go back to school and let's forget about this suspension."

Jessica added, "I did the right thing and i know that by making it I did cause what they all a disruption. But I did the right thing, I made sure that it was fake so I wouldn't change what I did."

A suspension hearing was held Wednesday and her parents were due to meet with school officials Thursday.
