A New Jersey man who was pushing his SUV after it broke down was hit by a passing vehicle, got up and told a good Samaritan he was OK, only to be struck and killed by a second vehicle.

The Asbury Park Press reports (http://on.app.com/JHHGnR ) William Cassano, of Brick Township, was pushing his disabled Toyota 4Runner on Route 70 Thursday night when a passing motorist stopped to help him. As the good Samaritan was getting out of his vehicle to help, a car crashed into the back of Cassano's Toyota, throwing him 30 feet.

Police say Cassano got up, told the good Samaritan he was OK, then was hit by another vehicle that killed him.

Detectives are asking witnesses to the crash to come forward.
