Houston police say a local dad has confessed to killing his 6-month-old son and placing the baby's body in his refrigerator, MyFoxHouston reports.

Houston police say they received a 911 call Wednesday from the man, who is in his 50s, saying he was having suicidal thoughts.

However, when officers arrived, the man refused to let them in. Police forced their way into the apartment once they discovered a child lived there, and eventually discovered the infant's body in the refrigerator.

The man confessed to police he had killed his child Tuesday. Authorities say the baby lived alone with the man in the apartment, and both he and the child's mother had issues in the past with Child Protective Services. Neither were named by police.

Authorities say the child's mother, who is in her 20s, allowed the man to take care of the child while she worked out some personal issues.

"Up until this point, he had appeared to be a good father and because of her own issues, she decided this would be a temporary solution to her problem. But she planned to come here to actually take the child today," Sgt. Ora Chandler of the Houston Police Department told MyFoxHouston.

Neighbors say they are shocked, as the man appeared to be a good father.

"Very shocking for the most part. Never thought something like this would happen. He was good with his baby, you know? He was happy," neighbor Evette Williams told MyFoxHouston. "I really can't say much. It's just devastating to me."

Authorities agree that from what they can tell so far from their investigation, the man showed no signs he would commit such an act.

"This sort of thing is unexplainable given the way people say he's cared for his kid in the past," Chandler told MyFoxHouston.
