The city of Weston, Fla., has banned nightclubs, dance halls and skating rinks, the Sun-Sentinel reports, over concerns of the crime and crowds they sometimes bring.

In 2011, the number of instances of gunfire in or around nightclubs in Southern Florida doubled from the year before, with nine cases, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

Skating rinks were banned to prevent them for being used as a front for a dance hall or nightclub, a city manager said.
